🇬🇧🇺🇦 Strengthening Policy and Protection for Ukrainians in the UK
How can the UK ensure a fair, secure, and humane pathway for Ukrainians who have found safety here?
This question lies at the heart of Settled’s ongoing advocacy and policy work. We’re proud to share the newly published University of Bristol Policy Brief on Ukraine*, developed in collaboration with leading experts in migration and refugee law, including contributions from Settled’s Ukraine Advice Team.

This timely policy paper explores how the UK can strengthen long-term protection and settlement routes for Ukrainians, a vital discussion as new procedural challenges emerge under the Ukrainian Permission Extension (UPE) scheme.
⚠️ Recent UPE Developments
Settled has begun to identify a concerning trend in pending UPE applications, with decisions delayed due to new proof-of-identity requirements introduced on 25 September 2025, affecting even applicants who applied before the change.
We are now:
🔹 Investigating the scope and impact of this issue.
🔹 Seeking clarification from the Home Office.
🔹 Working closely with key stakeholders and legal partners to identify swift and fair solutions for those affected.
💬 Why It Matters
Behind every policy update are real people, students, families, and parents whose futures depend on clear, consistent, and compassionate immigration rules.
At Settled, we continue to stand alongside Ukrainians in the UK, advocating to protect their rights, dignity, and stability.
